As round 3 of the national series will take place in the
sand at Rover, we decided to challenge the local guys and
to ‘measure’ our sand riding skills. The track was
great and the weather perfect, so we were set for a good days
racing.
In the combined 50cc class, 14 little chaps lined up behind
the gates. In the junior category it was our Andrea Mynhardt
who took first place. There was, however, plenty of action
in the 50cc Pro class. In both heats it was Barend Du Toit
(JHB), who holeshotted and led the first few laps. He was
under huge pressure from Lucca Mynhardt, who pounced in lap
4 of heat 1 and held off the Gauteng rider until the end of
the race. In heat 2, Lucca executed a classic pass on Du Toit
and opened a gap of 9 seconds by the end of the heat. There
was also an intense battle in the mid pack between the East
London contenders and the other top 50cc Cape Town riders.
Justin Sangster congratulates Andrea Mynhardt who was thrilled
with his first place finish in the 50cc Junior class.
In the 85cc class, Seth Van den Abeele dominated proceedings
but Justin Sangster rose to the occasion and earned a very
respectable second place in both heats. Grant Hutton came
third in both heats. Brett Roberts managed a deserving 4th
place, just off the podium.
Brett loved the sand and is determined to improve his sand
riding ability.
Our Port Elizabeth teammate, Storm Van Den Heever, finished
fifth. He would have done much better but his clutch went
in heat 1 and he had to challenge in heat 2 on his practice
bike.
Orbis junior riders Storm Van den Heever, Justin Sangster,
Brett Roberts, Andrea Mynhardt,
Lucca Mynhardt and East London rider Liam Botha had a great
race day.
We are delighted with the wins in both 50cc classes as well
as the second place in the 85cc.
